It all started back in 1985 when Del Amo Motorsports was founded. We were located at 1512 Aviation Blvd in Redondo Beach, CA. This was a store that was only 6,000 square feet, but one that was considered large for a motorcycle dealership at the time.
When we opened our doors in 1985, Suzuki was the only brand of motorcycles we carried. We were at the right time to be a Suzuki dealership when the GSX-R was released, and with the success of the GSX-R we were able to expand. In 1987, we added Kawasaki to our dealership. By 1990, Kawasaki had released its famous ZX line, and once again we were able to grow our sales and expand with another line. Also in 1990, we added Yamaha to our growing store. That same year, with Wayne Rainey winning the first of his three GP500 titles and the FZR 600, 750, and 1000, Yamaha had established itself as a major player in the industry.
Once again, we were able to expand and added Sea-Doo personal watercraft. Being so close to the ocean, this was a logical decision. With sales growing and a loyal base of customers in motorcycle-crazy Southern California, business was good. Another smart move was about to happen. In 1993, we became a Ducati franchise, and in just one short year the legendary 916 was released.
By 2002, we had to move- we had outgrown our building. We moved to our current location, 2500 Marine Ave in Redondo Beach, CA. At that time, this was a 25,000-square-foot building.
Shortly after our move, we then added another piece to the puzzle. In 2002, we added KTM to our family. KTM introduced the 950 Adventure and the 990 Duke. Within a short time, we had to expand our building and increased it to 35,000 square feet.
We then add Can-Am, and in 2008 the Spyder was introduced, followed by the Commander in 2010.
In 2010 we once again expanded by increasing our parts and accessories department to 10,000 square feet. Our building is now an astonishing 45,000 square feet!
Back in 2007, we decided to reach out and further expand, and in September we acquired an entirely new location in Long Beach, CA. We did a massive renovation to the entire store, increasing the size of our showroom, parts and accessories, and service departments, creating what is now Del Amo Motorsports of Long Beach.
